Georges Feydeau

Georges Feydeau, born on December 8, 1862 in Paris and died on June 5, 1921 in Rueil-Malmaison, was a French playwright, painter and art collector, known for his many vaudevilles.

I chose his work, "La Dame de chez Maxim"

"La Dame de chez Maxim"is a comedy by Georges Feydeau, based on a series of misunderstandings and mistaken identities. The story begins when Doctor Petypon, a respected man, wakes up after a night of heavy drinking and discovers a cabaret dancer nicknamed "The Shrimp" in his apartment.

When her uncle, General Petypon du GrĂȘlĂ©, arrives unexpectedly and sees the young woman, he mistakes her for the doctor's wife. To avoid scandal, Petypon doesn't dare deny it. The general then invites them both to a reception at his castle.

There, the bubbly and spontaneous Little Shrimp disrupts high society with her manners, outspokenness, and unpredictable behavior. Lies pile up, situations become increasingly absurd, until the truth finally comes out, putting an end to the chaos.

Why I choose this book

I chose this book that my French teacher had given me for the oral exam of the baccalaureate, and I enjoyed it very much.
